In addition to writing a novel and two short story collections, she has published twenty poetry collections, receiving numerous prizes in the genre, including the 1999 Nicolás Guillén International Poetry Prize for Insomnios en la noche del Espejo, the 2017 Zacatecas National Poetry Prize for \u003cem\u003eOld Music Island\u003c\/em\u003e, and the 2019 Clemencia Isaura Poetry Prize for  Últimos días de un país. Odette also served as editor for the 2011 \u003cem\u003eAntología de la poesía cubana del exilio\u003c\/em\u003e and co-edited the 2020 anthology \u003cem\u003eVersas y Diversas\u003c\/em\u003e, a collection of contemporary lesbian poetry from Mexico. She is currently coordinator for the Bulevar Arcoíris, a cultural project that promotes gender-dissident art and literature.
