Tzvetan Todorov (1939–2017) was a Bulgarian-born French philosopher, historian of ideas, and literary theorist. Educated in Sofia, he moved to Paris in 1963 and joined France’s CNRS in 1968, later serving as a director of research. He co-founded the journal Poétique and wrote widely on otherness, totalitarianism, and moral life.
