Collection: Gyula Krúdy
Gyula Krúdy (1878–1933) was a prolific Hungarian writer and journalist, best known for his atmospheric fiction rooted in nostalgia, dreams, and Budapest’s vanished world. Born in Nyíregyháza, he began publishing as a teenager and eventually supported his family through serialized novels and short stories. Despite personal and financial hardships, his lyrical and psychologically rich prose, especially his iconic Sindbad tales, captivated readers in his time. Though his popularity waned before his death, Krúdy was rediscovered posthumously thanks to Sándor Márai’s homage Sinbad Comes Home. Today, he is celebrated as a major figure in 20th-century Hungarian literature.
