Collection: Matthew A. Hale

Matthew A. Hale is an independent translator and researcher based in Nashville. He holds a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Washington, where his research focused on smallholders' organizations in China’s New Rural Reconstruction Movement (2001–2012). Specializing in anthropology, history, and Buddhist studies, his translation work includes The Path to Sun Village by Wu Chongqing (Brill, 2017), Two-Dimensional People by Tan Tongxue (Routledge, 2023), and a chapter of The Rise of Modern Chinese Thought by Wang Hui (Harvard, 2023).
