James Thompson is Professor of Applied and Social Theatre and founding director of the TiPP Centre (1992), as well as founder of In Place of War, which supports arts initiatives in conflict and disaster zones. He has written widely on applied theatre and socially engaged arts, including Performance Affects, Humanitarian Performance, and Care Aesthetics, and currently researches art and care as part of an AHRC-funded project.
